Dr. Michael Lagana, Back Pain Specialist of Edison, NJ

Michael Lagana, DC

Michael J. Lagana DC, FPSC(C) is an exceptionally talented chiropractor, having acquired his Doctorate of Chiropractic Degree from Life University in Marietta, GA in 1993, followed by a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition. He’s also certified as an Injury Prevention Specialist, Risk Management Consultant, and Corporate Health Coach.

Dr. Lagana was recently named Top Doctor 2022 by NJ Top Docs. In addition, he is one of the few Trauma Qualified Chiropractors in the state of New Jersey and has undergone rigorous training to be able to either diagnose or manage all spine cases. He has also completed an extensive program in triaging the injured, MRI spine interpretation, spinal orthopedics, early detection for stroke, spinal biomechanical engineering, and accident reconstruction for motor vehicle accidents. Dr. Lagana is also a current candidate for a fellowship in primary spine care.

We listen to your concerns, perform a detailed evaluation, run advanced imaging tests, and work collaboratively to curate a customized and comprehensive treatment plan. Dr. Lagana started Backsmart Wellness Center in New Jersey, because he’s committed to helping patients lead healthy and pain-free lives. He’s a strong advocate for healthy living, wellness, and preventative care, and, to that end, he actively educates his community members. He has also been featured on News 12 NJ because of his concerted community outreach efforts and stellar results.

Dr. Lagana is married with three children. When he’s not helping patients lead their best lives, he can be found boating, snowboarding, or spending quality time with his family.

Robert Foster, DC

Dr. Foster is a board-certified chiropractic physician in the states of New Jersey and New York. He earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from New York Chiropractic College. Prior to this, he completed his undergraduate work at Binghamton University where he received a Bachelor’s degree in exercise science.

Growing up in upstate New York, Dr. Foster embraced an active lifestyle of outdoor activities and sports such as skiing, baseball, basketball and golf. As an athlete, Dr. Foster became passionate about chiropractic therapy early on, as it immensely helped several of his own injuries. This passion led him to pursue a career focusing on sports chiropractic, injury rehabilitation, and corrective therapies.

In addition to chiropractic manipulations, Dr. Foster is proficient in Flexion-Distraction and Thompson Drop-Table, as well as soft-tissue techniques such as Active Release and Graston. He is certified in Kinesiology Taping and Functional Movement Technique. He also holds a certification in Webster Technique and is trained by the ICPA to treat pregnant mothers with various injuries.

In addition to chiropractic therapy, Dr. Foster is very passionate about nutrition. He enjoys spending time helping patients re-work their diet in an effort to reduce systemic inflammation and heal from within. Outside of work, he enjoys biking, skiing, watching sports, and spending time with his wife and puppy, Cooper.

Brittany Lavin, DPT

Dr. Brittany Lavin graduated with her B.S. in Biology from Widener University in 2017, and then continued her studies at Widener in their accelerated DPT Program earning her Doctorate of Physical Therapy Degree in 2019.

During her collegiate career, Brittany was a student-athlete who was able to balance playing sports while excelling in a rigorous academic program. Brittany completed 3 years of research on Rana Pipiens immune response and also volunteered at the Chester Community Pro Bono Clinic providing physical therapy services for the underserved and uninsured community members.

Brittany’s passion for helping others developed at a young age, but accelerated when she volunteered at the Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey’s (BIANJ) Camp TREK while in high school. She continues to volunteer at this camp every summer and has also become involved with Camp Fatima, which provides a summer respite for children with disabilities.

As a physical therapist, Brittany has worked with patients throughout every stage of life. Her youngest patient was 27 weeks gestational age and her oldest patient was 103 years old!

In her spare time, Brittany enjoys traveling to different countries and fostering dogs.

Seung Gon Lee, LAC

Born and raised in Korea, Mr. Lee was steeped in Oriental healing culture and witnessed his father practicing Oriental medicine in their clinic at home. In his mid-twenties, he was blessed to meet two exceptional spiritual masters, who taught him chi and chi meditation, martial arts, Taoism, and Buddhist philosophy. Their teachings made him appreciate the value of the medicine his father offered, and inspired and encouraged his interest in becoming a healer.

In 1995, he received his Master’s Degree at Samra University of Oriental Medicine in L.A. and got the CA Acupuncturist license and the certificate of NCCAOM. He then went on to Korea to study Byungin Herbology, Korean Saam Acupuncture, Dongshi Acupuncture, and Korean Hand Acupuncture.

He has been a licensed O.M.D. for over 20 years and successfully helped thousands of patients to heal through acupuncture, oriental herbal medicine, and other holistic therapies. He has acquired many skills and developed expertise in treating a wide variety of painful conditions, digestive disorders, immune system weakness, and female reproductive concerns and mental diseases like depression, insomnia, and anxiety.

Mr. Lee understands that each patient is unique and he will tailor each patient’s treatment to their specific condition. He specializes in gentle acupuncture. Every patient will be treated with the utmost respect and focus. His goal is to provide thoughtful and compassionate care while empowering his patients to live healthier lives.

Zachary Katzman, DPT

Dr. Zachary Katzman is a 2011 graduate of Towson University where he received his B.S. in Exercise Science. Following his undergraduate degree, he attended Union County College where he received his Physical Therapy Assistant license. During this time he gained years of experience across all specialties of Physical Therapy. He also became a certified personal trainer to improve his exercise prescription to better help his patients.

In 2018, Zach went back to receive his Doctorate in Physical Therapy. He is extremely compassionate, empathetic, and hard-working and patients love this about him. Zach is highly qualified in treating patients of all ages from sports-related injuries in children to getting geriatric patients back to their prior level of function. He caters all physical therapy interventions directly to each individual’s personal goals.
