Our chiropractor, Dr. Michael Lagana, works with a team of health professionals to offer non-invasive sciatica treatment in Edison, NJ at our wellness center.
After a comprehensive examination of the spine, our chiropractor may recommend non-surgical spinal decompression using a spinal decompression table. Spinal decompression lengthens the spine to create a small vacuum between vertebrae, and this vacuum pulls the herniated disc back into place. The procedure also stimulates circulation that reduces painful inflammation.
We also perform regular chiropractic adjustments that supplement and support the therapeutic effects of non-surgical spinal decompression.
Most patients enjoy relief from pain after the first treatment of spinal decompression alone or with chiropractic adjustments, and their symptoms usually continue to improve with each session. Dr. Lagana may recommend that the patient receive an epidural with a pain management physician if these treatments do not alleviate symptoms of sciatica. The epidural controls the pain while chiropractic care heals the body.
Surgery should be considered only as a last resort so our director, Dr. Lagana, uses a five-step approach to sciatica treatment. We start with holistic chiropractic care then add massage, physical therapy and acupuncture as needed. Surgery may be necessary when all four all-natural, non-invasive treatments do not provide relief. Our healthcare professionals work with surgeons to ensure a swift, smooth recovery from surgery.
Regular exercise that strengthens core abdominal muscles can help to prevent sciatica, as can maintaining proper posture, practicing good body mechanics when lifting, shifting weight when standing for long periods and using ergonomically-designed furniture.
