Michael J. Lagana, D.C. - Founder and Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Michael Lagana earned his Doctorate of Chiropractic Degree from Life University in Marietta, GA in 1993 as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition.  He is also a Certified Injury Prevention Specialist, Corporate Health Coach, Risk Management Consultant and guest lecturer.  Dr. Lagana started Backsmart Wellness Center in 1998 in Edison, NJ because he loves helping people and making a difference in their lives.  As a strong advocate for wellness and preventative care, Dr. Lagana spends a great deal of time educating the community about how to take an active role in their own health to decrease the effects of stress and illness on the body. 

Dr. Lagana is married with 3 children and enjoys boating, snowboarding and spending time with his family in his free time.

Steven Farber, D.C. - Associate Chiropractor

Dr. Farber is a lifelong resident of Middlesex County and graduated with honors from New York Chiropractic College with a Doctorate degree in chiropractic.  He decided to become a chiropractor after suffering for years with migraine headaches and having excellent results with chiropractic care.  Dr. Farber joined Backsmart in February 2008 and is a member of the Coalition of Hispanic Physicians.

Carolyn Ahearn, M.S.P.T. - Director of Physical Therapy

Carolyn is a licensed physical therapist who joined the Backsmart team in 2009.  She graduated from Northeastern University in 2004 and holds a B.S. in Rehabilitation Science and an M.S. in Physical Therapy.  She is currently working on her doctorate in physical therapy.  Carolyn has worked in a variety of settings including acute and subacute rehabilitation, long term and outpatient care working primarily with neurological and orthopedic diagnoses. She previously worked as a Director of Rehabilitation and has worked around the country including New Mexico and Hawaii.  She is a member of the APTA in the orthopedic and health policy & administration sections. Carolyn is loved by all her patients as well as the rest of the Backsmart staff!

Min Jae Chung, MS, L.Ac. - Director Acupuncture & Chinese Herbal Medicine

Min is a licensed acupuncturist and chinese herbologist who received his BS degree in Seoul, Korea.  He immigrated to the United States in 1998 and received his Masters' degree from the Dallas College of Oriental Medicine in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbology in 2004.  Min recently joined the Backsmart team to provide acupuncture and chinese medicine services.  The patients at Backsmart are already raving about him!

Tanya Broughton, LMT - Licensed Massage Therapist

Tanya is a licensed massage therapist who graduated from Cortiva Institute.  She specializes in deep tissue massage and has a wonderful technique.  Tanya is extremely knowledgeable and has a great personality that all the patients of Backsmart love!

Michelle Lagana -  Director of Marketing &

Community Outreach Development

Michelle joined Backsmart in 1998 as the Director of Marketing and Community Outreach Development.  She is responsible for all marketing, advertising and promotional activities for Backsmart.  In addition, Michelle spends much of her time educating corporations, schools and government municipalities on the importance of wellness and disease prevention in the workplace.  A graduate of Georgia State University in 1991, Michelle holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Marketing & has over 20 years experience in the healthcare industry.

Michelle Weckesser - Office Manager

Michelle began working at Backsmart as the front desk receptionist in 2006.  She has worked hard to educate herself in the areas of health and wellness as well as business management and earned her chiropractic assistant certification in 2008.  Michelle was promoted to office manager in 2008 and oversees the office duties of all the Backsmart facilities.

Donna Nagy - Front Desk Receptionist

Donna joined Backsmart in 2008 as the front desk receptionist with a strong background in chiropractic, physical therapy and rehabilitation.  She handles patient scheduling and insurance verifications in addition to numerous other administrative responsibilities and is a strong asset to the Backsmart team.
