Top 5 Edison Chiropractic Care FAQs

Whether you are suffering from chronic back pain, struggling to heal after an injury, or searching for an alternative to surgery and medication, chiropractic care can make a big difference for your body’s health. Below, our chiropractor answers five of the most frequently asked questions about chiropractic care, including what to expect during your first chiropractic treatment session:

#1: What is chiropractic care?

Chiropractic care is a non-invasive, drug-free treatment technique that helps manage chronic pain and supports the body’s natural healing process. Chiropractic treatment is safe and effective alternative to surgery and medication for managing back pain, neck pain, headaches, migraines, sciatica and other chronic pain conditions. Whether the spine is out of alignment following an accident injury or because of natural wear and tear, this misalignment can cause the spine to compress nearby nerves and muscles. As long as this compression persists, patients will continue to experience pain. Chiropractic adjustments are designed to bring proper alignment back to the spine, relieving pain and helping the body naturally heal without the need for surgery.

#2: Is a chiropractor a qualified injury doctor?

Yes, our Edison chiropractic physician Dr. Michael Lagana is qualified to diagnose and treat injuries to the musculoskeletal system. Dr. Lagana has been providing Edison chiropractic care for patients since 1998; he is strong advocate for wellness care and injury prevention. Should you suffer a car accident injury, sports injury, workplace or personal injury, Dr. Lagana has the experience and training necessary to accurately diagnose the cause for your back or neck pain and create a custom treatment program to effectively manage this pain.

#3: What should I expect during treatment?

During your first treatment session, our chiropractor will perform comprehensive diagnostic tests to determine the precise cause for your pain. Our goal is to identify spinal subluxations (misalignments) that trigger pain by compressing nearby nerves and muscles. Spinal subluxations also interfere with the central nervous system’s ability to properly send and receive messages throughout the body, compromising your body’s overall health. Once we have identified the precise location of these subluxations, our chiropractor will create a custom treatment plan to bring alignment back to the spine.

#4: How does chiropractic care treat back pain?

Back pain is frequently caused by a herniated, slipped or bulging disc in the lower spine. When this disc slips out of alignment it may compress nearby nerves, triggering pain. For example, if a herniated disc in the lower spine compresses the sciatic nerve, patients may experience a radiating pain sensation along the entire nerve, a painful condition known as sciatica. Chiropractic adjustments specifically target the spinal misalignment that is trigger pain. Creating space between the vertebrae relieves compression and alleviates pain.

#5: Can chiropractic care treat my whiplash injury?

Chiropractic treatment is effective for managing neck pain caused by whiplash injuries. Neck pain is caused by a cervical spine misalignment; gentle, hands-on adjustments safely bring proper alignment back to the neck. This relieves headache, migraine and neck pain.
